Being a member of Peoples Rights Organization, Ohio's largest and most aggressive grassroots firearms rights organization, means being a part of a large organization that is making a difference in our communities around Ohio, and in protecting the rights of all Ohioans -- regardless of whether they want to own or carry a firearm.  This is an organization that is long respected by Ohio lawmakers, citizens and law enforcement. PRO is a significant player not just in Ohio but on the national scene among grassroots rights organizations.  PRO has been long-time participating sponsor of the annual Gun Rights Policy Conference held by the Second Amendment Foundation and Citizens Committee on the Right To Keep and Bear Arms.  PRO is regularly quoted in national publications by respected writer and firearms advocates such as Neal Knox (founder of the NRA's Institute for Legislative Action and regular columnist in SHOTGUN NEWS), Joe Tartaro (publisher of GUN WEEK), and in general interest daily newspapers around Ohio. We also frequently answer background questions for reporters who want to get the technical aspects of their reporting on firearms correct (though we wish many more reporters would take the time to do so rather than have their stories plagued with errors-of-fact).

PRO is at the forefront over the battle in the Buckeye State to enable law abiding Ohio women and men to carry a firearm to protect themselves when they leave their home.  These past few years, concealed carry legislation has been front and center in the Ohio General Assembly and PRO has been there from the beginning and had significant impact.  In fact, Peoples Rights Organization members are credited for doing much of the spadework in the past decade that led to a state legislature that is finally taking concealed carry seriously.  Most recently, PRO was asked by the Bellevue, Wa.-based Second Amendment Foundation to join in its Hamilton County lawsuit to overturn Ohio's antiquated prohibition on concealed carry.  PRO members also played a highly significant role in a change in laws finally permitting Sunday hunting.  And the two federal lawsuits PRO filed and won in the 1990s to overturn unconstitutionally vague laws to this day are cited by both pro-gun and anti-gun legal scholars, alike.

Through our Education arm, PRO-Training, Peoples Rights Organization sponsors gun safety classes, community safety/crime avoidance classes, and donates thousands of dollars in youth safety teaching materials to police departments throughout the state of Ohio. Our gun safety classes are all taught by NRA Certified Instructors.  Most of the active firearms instructors in Ohio, in fact, have received their instructor training through PRO-Training.  We do not make a profit from these classes and only charge enough to cover our costs.  Our Refuse to Be a Victim crime avoidance classes are usually taught at no charge, and are scheduled at public libraries and other public facilities.  All PRO-Training instructors -- whether for firearms safety, youth safety, or crime avoidance -- are volunteers who donate their time as a community service.  With more than 25 women and men who are NRA Certified Instructors, PRO-Training is Ohio's largest firearms safety safety teaching team.
